這兩個(gè)名詞都是“假設(shè)”的意思。
assumption指主觀上對(duì)具體事物的“假設(shè)”、“推測(cè)”。
1)Your assumption that yourhistory teacher gives you low marks because she
dislikes you isunjustified.
你的歷史老師因?yàn)樗幌矚g你給你低分,你這種假設(shè)是沒有理由的。
2)Contrary to the popular assumption, the pricein the market does not drop
but rather risea bit.
與普遍的猜測(cè)相反,市場(chǎng)的價(jià)格沒有降而是上升了一點(diǎn)。
3)I believe that it is a fairly correctassumption based on past experience.
我認(rèn)為這是一個(gè)根據(jù)之前的經(jīng)驗(yàn)建立在一個(gè)相對(duì)正確的假設(shè)。
4)Underlying these narratives was anassumption that damage compensation can
be reduced by riskexposure.

hypothesis指對(duì)理論、學(xué)說方面的假設(shè)、推測(cè),有待作進(jìn)一步檢驗(yàn)或證實(shí)的
假設(shè)。
1)A scientific hypothesiscan only be confirmed by indisputable facts, i.e.
by empiricalevidence.
一個(gè)科學(xué)假說要經(jīng)過無可能辨駁事實(shí)的證實(shí),即經(jīng)過踐實(shí)的證據(jù)證實(shí)。
2)There are a number ofhypotheses proposed to speculate about the originof
the universe.
有一些假設(shè)提出來推測(cè)宇宙的起源。
3)We have no substantialevidence to support this hypothesis.
我們?nèi)鄙偈聦?shí)根據(jù)來支持這種假說。
4)The idea that continents broke and driftapart is known as the hypothesis
of continental drift.
認(rèn)為大陸曾經(jīng)分裂并漂離的想法叫大陸漂移假說。
