as such 這一短語中的 such是代詞，指代前面提到的某一名詞或名詞短語。用法主要有三
種：
●“像這樣的人或事物”、“以這種名義、身份或資格”、“像這樣的情況”。
1）He is a brilliant scholar inbiological engineering and he is everywhere
recognized as such.
他是一位生物工程杰出的學(xué)者，這是世界各地都一致公認(rèn)的。
2）She' is a competent leader and has always been regarded assuch by her
colleagues.
她是個(gè)很有能力的領(lǐng)導(dǎo)人,她的同事一向都是這樣認(rèn)為的。
3）Man is a biological organism and as such has needs incommon with all animals
forfood andshelter.
人是生物體,作為生物體人與動(dòng)物一樣需食物和住所。
4）So far as I am aware, she is the author of the article, but shedoes not
desire to be known assuch.
據(jù)我所知，她是這篇文章的作者，但她不想讓人知道她是這篇文章的作者。
5）She is a kind woman and as such is known to everybody.
她是位好心腸的女人，這是大家知道的。
6）The film was a romance, and as such it had the usual happyending.
那部影片很浪漫,作為浪漫影片,它通常都有一個(gè)愉快的結(jié)局。
7）You are new to this job, and as such, I will have to trainyou.
這份工作你是新手,我將不得不訓(xùn)練你。
8）I cannot accept your manuscript as such. It needsrevisions.
你這樣的手稿我不能接受，它需要修改。
9）As such, it is not completely convincing. More proofs areneeded.
僅此還不足以令人信服, 還需要有更多的證據(jù)。
10）As such, the style of study is aquestion of extraordinary, indeed of
primary,importance.
既然是這樣，學(xué)風(fēng)問題就是一個(gè)非常突出的問題，第一個(gè)重要的問題。
● 置于名詞后面，表示in the exact sense of theword ， 意為“就本身而論”、“…… 本
身”。
1）Money, as such, does not bring happiness.
錢本身并不給人帶來快樂。
2）I am not against taxes as such, but do object whentaxation is justified on
spurious or dishonestgrounds.
我不是反對(duì)稅收本身,但我確實(shí)反對(duì)莫名的或不正當(dāng)?shù)睦碛傻亩愂铡?/p>
3）The shop doesn't sell books as such, but it does sellmagazines and
newspapers.
商店不賣書,但它確實(shí)賣雜志和報(bào)紙。
4）I don’t oppose the plan as such, but I don’t thing it isproper at the
presenttime.
我不是反對(duì)這個(gè)計(jì)劃本身，我只是認(rèn)為現(xiàn)在實(shí)施這個(gè)計(jì)劃不合時(shí)宜。
5）There are no bad materialsas such, but only badarticles.
沒有不好的素材，只有不好的文章。
6）The gift as such wmay be of little worth，but it embodiesher goodness.
這禮物本身也許沒有價(jià)值, 但它包含著她的一片好意。
7）The officer of the law, as such, is entitled torespect.
一個(gè)執(zhí)法官本身應(yīng)受到人們的尊敬。
●有時(shí)用于否定句中表示按某詞詞義“算不上……”、“并不真是……”、“象樣的”的意思。
（It is used with a negative toindicate that a word or expression is not a very
accurate descriptionof the actual situation.）
1）It’s not anagreement as such, but it will have virtually the sameeffect as
one.
就協(xié)議的詞義而言，它算不上是協(xié)定，但實(shí)際上起到了協(xié)定的作用。
2）I can’t call mybook a best seller as such, but it’s very popular.
我不敢說我的書是暢銷書，但可以說很受歡迎。
3）The new job is nota promotion as such，but it has good prospects.
這份新工作算不上是晉升,但它有較好的前景。
4）The position,as such, does not appeal to him, but the salary is alure.
這個(gè)位置稱算不上對(duì)他有什么吸引力,但薪水倒是蠻有誘惑的。
5）Heisn't American as such, but he's spent most of his lifethere.
他算不上是美國人,但他一生中大部分時(shí)間都是在美國生活的。
